What is the first thing you would think about if I said Proverbs 31? Girls guidebook of noble character? Wise Businesswoman? Stay-at-home mom? Wel take a second guess. Proverbs 31 does serve as a model for a christian woman, but this chapter of the Bible also applies to the life of men too. From proverbs 31:1-9 King Lemuel quotes the words of advise that his mother had taught him:
The Sayings of King Lemuel
1 The sayings of King Lemuel contain this message,[a]which his mother taught him.
2 O my son, O son of my womb,
O son of my vows,
3 do not waste your strength on women,
on those who ruin kings.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, to guzzle wine.
Rulers should not crave alcohol.
5 For if they drink, they may forget the law
and not give justice to the oppressed.
6 Alcohol is for the dying,
and wine for those in bitter distress.
7 Let them drink to forget their poverty
and remember their troubles no more.
8 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves;
ensure justice for those being crushed.
9 Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless,
and see that they get justice.”
these verses apply to everyone, male/female. Lemuel’s mother told to not waste his life on women and alcohol, she knew that alcohol would numb his brain and cause him to forget the law and rule unjustly which would apply to all of us. Verses 10-31 talk about a wife of noble character: the model for all females. So proverbs 13 applies to everybody.
